Research

J's work has been published in Sociological Inquiry , Sexuality, Gender, & Policy, and Black Perspectives, the award-winning blog of the African American Intellectual History Society (AAIHS).

Their dissertation, “Gentrification and Displacement in the American Rustbelt: A Qualitative Study of Neighborhood Change and Experience,” is a qualitative examination into the lives of people affected by gentrification in a neighborhood on the East Side of Buffalo, NY.

My program of research is guided by the following questions: 1) What does gentrification and other types of neighborhood change mean for inequality? 2) What does gentrification mean for Black and Brown people, who are typically more vulnerable to inequality more broadly?
